We used foot traffic data to understand which beaches had the highest visitation surges during this peak period in 2023, in order to help us predict the impact of spring break on these areas in 2024.
As winter's chill gradually loosens its grip on much of the United States, thoughts shift to warmer climates, sun-kissed beaches, and the annual rite of passage known as spring break. For many, this means traveling to well-known beach towns, with Fort Lauderdale, Florida, being a perennial favorite. With its inviting beaches, vibrant culture, and bustling neighborhoods, Fort Lauderdale attracts visitors from far and wide seeking the ultimate spring break experience.
According to Unacast location data, foot traffic in Broward County, Florida increased significantly during the weeks around spring break, from March 5 to April 15, 2023. Foot traffic was 8% higher on average during this time period compared to the rest of the year. Looking closer, we find that the center of this surge is in downtown Fort Lauderdale, with neighborhoods like Central Beach, Las Olas Isles, and Lauderdale Beach experiencing some of the biggest increases in foot traffic activity.

The famed Fort Lauderdale Beach, with its pristine sands and crystal-clear waters, is the ideal setting for sun-soaked adventures and Instagrammable moments. For those looking for even more local flavor, the nearby Las Olas Boulevard offers a plethora of dining, shopping, and entertainment options, guaranteeing that there is never a dull moment in this lively neighborhood.

While these bustling beachfront enclaves capture much of the spring break foot traffic, we should note that not all neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale see a surge in foot traffic during this time.
