This week, our NYC office decided to take some time out of the day to give back to our community. If you keep up with our blog, you know that socks are actually a big part of our culture, and that our shoe-free philosophy can tell you a lot about who we are as a company. Socks also happen to be one of the most requested items in homeless shelters, and with winter still far from over in the city (we just got another surprise snowfall this morning), there was no better time to take action and do our part to help all New Yorkers stay safe, warm and dry.
We got to work building out kits for homeless men and women to be delivered to Bowery Mission, which has been serving NYC since 1879.
The kits included socks (of course!), deodorant, undergarments and sanitary items like tooth brushes and toothpaste. After putting everything together, we brought the kits down to Bowery Mission for evening distribution.
Taking an hour out of the day in service of something bigger than ourselves was a humbling, much-appreciated experience, and a reminder that there are always ways to get creative and plan team bonding activities that tie together integral parts of company culture with volunteer work.
